How SBTET SGPA & CGPA Grade Points are Calculated with Percentage Multiplier

SBTET Telangana follows a Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) and Outcome-Based Education (OBE) framework across diploma schemes including C18, C21, and C24. Understanding grade point formulas helps students track academic progress and plan for higher studies.

1. SBTET 10-Point Grading Scale & Grade Points

Student performance in every theory and practical subject is evaluated on a 10-point scale: O Grade (90-100% marks = 10 Grade Points), A+ Grade (80-89% = 9 Points), A Grade (70-79% = 8 Points), B+ Grade (60-69% = 7 Points), B Grade (50-59% = 6 Points), C Grade (40-49% = 5 Points), P Grade (35-39% = 4 Points), and F Grade (Below 35% = 0 Points / Fail).

To pass a theory subject, a student must secure at least 35% marks in the Semester End Examination (SEE) and satisfy the minimum combined Continuous Internal Evaluation (CIE) + SEE aggregate threshold.

2. Step-by-Step SGPA Calculation Formula

Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) evaluates your academic performance within a single semester.

Formula: SGPA = Σ (Subject Grade Points × Subject Credits) / Total Semester Credits.

Example: If you take 5 subjects with 3 credits each (total 15 credits) and score Grade Points of 10, 9, 8, 8, and 7, your Total Credit Points = (10×3) + (9×3) + (8×3) + (8×3) + (7×3) = 30 + 27 + 24 + 24 + 21 = 126. Your SGPA = 126 / 15 = 8.40.

3. Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) Calculation

CGPA measures your overall performance across all completed semesters from Semester 1 through Semester 6.

Formula: CGPA = Σ (SGPA of Semester i × Total Credits of Semester i) / Total Credits Across All Semesters.

In schemes with 6-month Industrial Training (such as 5th or 6th semester), internship credits are weighted into the cumulative aggregate.

4. Official SBTET CGPA to Percentage Conversion Multiplier

For employment applications, government job notifications (such as RRB JE, SSC JE, TS Transco, TS Genco), and university admissions, students often need percentage marks.

Official Board Conversion Formula: Equivalent Percentage = (CGPA - 0.5) × 10.

Example: A student with a CGPA of 8.20 has an equivalent percentage of (8.20 - 0.5) × 10 = 7.70 × 10 = 77.0%.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do backlog subjects impact my SGPA and CGPA?

Backlog subjects are recorded with 0 grade points until successfully cleared in supplementary examinations. Once cleared, the updated grade points replace the 0 and recalculate your overall CGPA.

Q: Is First Class with Distinction awarded based on SGPA or CGPA?

Distinction and class awards (First Class with Distinction, First Class, Second Class) are strictly determined based on your final 3-year Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA).
